Rethinking Assessment

Tuesday, May 3, 2022 - 4:00pm to Tuesday, June 7, 2022 - 5:30pm

When: Tuesdays, May 3 - June 7, 4 pm - 5:30 pm ET

Leader: Andrew Kern

Assessment should bless our children, but too often it distracts them and provokes anxiety. If we want it to bless, it will need more than a tune-up; it needs a chemical transformation. To change the metaphor, we need to rethink assessment to its roots. But we also have to respect the circumstances of our age and the burdens they place on our families.

This six session online intensive investigates the history of assessment to describe how we got here, explores the nature of assessment to determine how we can do it more appropriately, and offers alternative approaches that enable us to use it to bless our children. In fact, this intensive is an attempt to see how we can use assessment to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness without compromise, so that God Himself can add all the things the “gentiles” seek in His wise and loving way.

Note that when Kern uses the word assessment, he includes in its meaning every level of feedback, from standardized tests to the coach saying “nice job.”
