In this webinar, Jonathan Rogers will provide an overview of Paradise Lost and provide a few different entry points to help make it easier for readers, teachers, and students to understand and enjoy Milton’s great epic. C.S. Lewis’s Preface to Paradise Lost will provide the structure for much of the discussion.

Topics will include:

• A book-by-book summary of Paradise Lost

• The place of Paradise Lost in the epic genre

• The theology of Paradise Lost

• Milton’s understanding of hierarchy 

• The question of Satan: Is he the true protagonist of Paradise Lost ?


Jonathan Rogers received his undergraduate degree from Furman University in South Carolina and holds a Ph.D. in seventeenth-century English literature from Vanderbilt University. He is the author of The Terrible Speed of Mercy, Wilderking Trilogy–The Bark of the Bog Owl, The Secret of the Swamp King, and The Way of the Wilderking–as well as The World According to Narnia and a biography of Saint Patrick.
