Math, Mimesis, and Memory: The Blessings of Collective Memory in the Mathematics Classroom
Presented at the 2017 National Conference in Austin, TX.
In most classrooms, students arrive with diverse math backgrounds and varied working knowledge of mathematical concepts. How does a teacher not only overcome this apparent obstacle but celebrate it so that all students experience satisfaction at the end of a lesson? In this talk, Amanda Butler will share examples of math lessons that draw from students' memories, encourage students to wrestle for truth, and reward students with confidence and ownership of concepts.
