In a chapter entitled “Topos and Kairos”, Eugene Peterson lays out principles for being locally content and personally present in a place:  notice the small, persevere in the commonplace, appreciate the obscure.  Anxiety in home and school stems from believing the modern myths that we should be pursuing the ideals of safety and convenience.  One of the key elements in creating ordered lives in homes and schools is to cultivate habits of the soul that move us from being “consumers” of a place to being “contributors”.  What are these habits and how are they cultivated?
