Lumen Verum Academy, a 6-12 school sponsored by the Archdiocese of Boston, is seeking teachers of Mathematics for the 2022-2023 school year. The school currently offers grades 6-8 and will offer a ninth grade in SY22-23, with an additional grade opening in each subsequent year. Using the Art of Problem Solving curriculum, our unique and rigorous approach to mathematics strives to help scholars grasp how the beauty of mathematics reveals the mind of God and the order of creation, and to encourage scholars to approach math with playful rigor, joy, and wonder. Courses offered for the 2022-2023 school year will include: pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and precalculus. Lumen Verum Academy offers a Catholic classical, liberal arts education in a blended-learning environment. The core curriculum includes: integrated humanities (literature and history), math, science, debate/rhetoric, English composition, Latin, and theology. Small class sizes and Socratic teaching characterize our pedagogical approach. As a faculty member at our small but growing school, each teacher has a very significant and unique opportunity to shape the intellectual and spiritual culture of our community. Academic instruction is provided virtually four days a week, while in-person instruction as well as community and faith-building activities take place on Wednesdays and some Saturdays throughout the year. Requirements: 1. Strong mathematics background, with a deep understanding of mathematics as a liberal art 2. Deep commitment to the Catholic faith and fidelity to the Church's teachings 3. A joyful disposition that radiates enthusiasm and care for students 4. Commitment to lifelong learning and passion for subject matter 5. In-person availability for selected Wednesday and Saturday events 6. Bachelor's degree Teachers will also be required to take an Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Please note that though these qualifications represent the ideal, we encourage educators from non-traditional backgrounds to apply. 2. Familiarity with classical liberal arts pedagogy (e.g., Socratic teaching) 3. Teaching experience, preferably at the middle and high school level 4. Ability to teach other subjects in addition to mathematics (e.g., science, theology, Latin) 5. Experience with virtual instruction 6.
