Chesterton Academy of St. John Paul II is seeking a dynamic and charismatic Headmaster for our new, co-ed and independent, Catholic, classical high school in Northern Colorado. The school is scheduled to open in August 2020. A successful candidate will be able to start as soon as is practical. Like our Patron, we are looking for someone who has demonstrated a strong adherence to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, is a solid advocate of a classical education, is an inspirational leader and is an outdoor enthusiast. The Headmaster, leading our three key areas of spiritual, intellectual and character development, is responsible for implementing and maintaining fidelity to the Chesterton Academy curriculum, instructional leadership, hiring and supervision of instructional personnel, guiding student life, discipline and ongoing parent communication. Primary Responsibilities and Duties Curriculum and Academic Excellence • Be the school’s academic leader • Oversee adherence to Chesterton Schools Network curriculum • Oversee implementation of changes to curriculum • Analyze performance assessments (CLT, PSAT, ACT, SAT), and lead strategies toward achieving academic goals • Oversee accreditation process and renewal per Network guidelines Instruction • Support collaborative relationships among faculty and staff in order to foster high academic, and moral expectations for all students • Oversee faculty hiring, evaluation, employment-agreement renewals, and terminations • Conduct classroom observations for faculty members as part of ongoing evaluation and compensation processes • Furnish instructional coaching to faculty Student Life and Discipline • Establish a highly visible presence within greater school community, placing special emphasis on attendance at student events • Ensure discipline policies are communicated, modeled, and enforced • Oversee parent-led athletic, and extracurricular activities • Ensure effectiveness of virtue-based mentoring programs for house system and faculty • Oversee standards of academic and behavioral eligibility for extra-curricular activities Communications • Maintain ongoing communications (Headmaster notes, newsletter, social media, etc.) • Meet with parents regarding student discipline, academic issues, and other topics supporting student success • Project, promote, and represent the school as a superior, distinctly Catholic, academic and spiritual option for parents in assisting them in the education of their children Admissions • Admit new students upon review of placement exam, application materials, and meeting • Oversee student transfer process (curriculum, regulations, forms, financial) • Review placement assessments, develop guidelines, and provide for instructional strategies, relative to prospective students needing remedial instruction, or who require individualized instruction • Deliver presentations to prospective parents and students at selected school events Guidance • Coordinate standardized assessment strategies, and, college-planning guidance including transcript preparation • Communicate with colleges, universities, military recruiters, and other post-secondary programs • Promote various vocational opportunities Other School Operations • Oversee selection and evaluation of vendors (software, textbooks, other services) • Ensure high standards and maintenance for student-data privacy • Ensure pastoral services are ongoing, and adequate • Ensure general compliance with Archdiocesan requirements; and/or federal, state, and local governmental laws regarding education, health/safety, tax, and labor laws, as applicable • Teaching responsibilities as needed Minimum Requirements • Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing, and in alignment with Church teaching • Desire and willingness to learn about the Chesterton-system curriculum, to uphold and promote the mission and values of the school • Masters Degree or equivalent • Significant teaching experience in a classical-school environment • Working knowledge of institutional advancement/fundraising • Demonstrated excellent leadership, and organizational skills working with multiple constituencies in a school community • Strong interpersonal and communication skills Other Desired Qualifications • Five or more years administrative experience in a Catholic secondary school • Experience with the Chesterton Schools curriculum, processes, and network • A deep understanding of the philosophy, history, and mission of Catholic education • Successful experience in institutional development and fundraising • Proven finesse in interacting with parents • Enjoys activities in natural and wilderness areas About Chesterton Academy of St. John Paul II Founded in 2020, St. John Paul II plans to launch in August 2020. It will be the only Catholic high school serving the Northern Colorado area. While it is independent, it is approved and assisted by the Archdiocese of Denver and is part of the Chesterton Schools Network. It will first be located at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Windsor. A subsequent permanent location will be established as soon as practicable.
