POSITION DESCRIPTION Full-Time Instructor of Math and Science with Secondary Areas of Study in Humanities (Philosophy and History) General Summary Chesterton Academy of the Sacred Heart is seeking a versatile, full-time math and science teacher, with secondary experience in the humanities field, particularly philosophy and history, whose love of the subject material is matched by their love of teaching and forming high school students in the Catholic faith. Teaching assignments may include astronomy/Earth science, courses selected from the complete math curriculum (Algebra I through Calculus), all levels of philosophy from ancient to modern, history from ancient to modern, and debate, and possible upper-level science courses. Many courses at Chesterton Academy of the Sacred Heart are taught in a Socratic-discussion format. The successful candidate must be able to lead a dialectally driven classroom and embrace the integration of subject material throughout the rigorous curriculum. Additional teaching duties may include oversight of the physical education program. Teachers are expected to demonstrate superior teaching ability, content excellence, adherence to the Chesterton Academy syllabi, classroom management, promote a joy-filled culture, and assume some extra-curricular club and activities duties. Faculty at Chesterton Academy also participate in the student House system. The House system is designed to promote character and virtue, leadership, and to help students grow in holiness. Faculty members are required to attend daily Mass with the entire student body and participate in spiritual retreats or other school activities. The Math and Science Teacher with Secondary Responsibilities in the Humanities reports directly to the Headmaster for Chesterton Academy of the Sacred Heart. A collaborative relationship between the teacher and the Headmaster is paramount. Required Qualifications: The candidate must be a practicing Catholic and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church. Candidates ideally have previous teaching experience, demonstrate excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, and possess a track record of contributing to the vision and mission of an apostolic and educational enterprise. A Bachelor’s degree must be completed by time of hire. Position begins August 1, 2021.
