Chesterton Academy of the Incarnation, a new classical high school grounded in the Catholic faith, seeks a talented and dynamic, full-time Headmaster to lead the launch of its school opening in the 2022-23 academic year. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for one called to leadership in Catholic, classical education. Summary The Headmaster serves as the educational leader of the school and is responsible for implementing the Chesterton Schools Network curriculum, overseeing the teaching staff, and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that adheres to our Catholic identity and promotes a strong culture of joy and virtue at the school. He or she is responsible for instructional leadership (teacher growth and development), curriculum oversight, hiring and supervision of instructional personnel, student life, discipline, and related parent communications. The Headmaster will ensure that students are in a learning environment that develops both faith and reason and allows them to discover their God-given talents and to discern their ultimate calling with joy. The Headmaster must be practicing Catholic, possess the minimum of a Master's Degree in Education, Administration (or related field) or equivalent experience in teaching and administration in a classical school setting, and demonstrate a commitment to Catholic secondary education. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience ($60k to $75k range). Primary Responsibilities and Duties Curriculum and Academic Excellence • Oversee implementation of and adherence to Chesterton Schools Network curriculum, including any future changes to that curriculum • Collect course materials for each class (syllabus, weekly teaching plan, tests) • Review results of student tests (CLT8, CLT10, CLT, PSAT) and make stipulations regarding course content and delivery as needed • Oversee school accreditation process and renewal Instruction • Oversee faculty hiring, evaluation, rehires, terminations • Conduct classroom observations for faculty members as part of evaluation process Student Life and Discipline • Ensure discipline policies are enforced, communicated • Oversee school-sponsored extracurricular activities and sports • Ensure effectiveness of House System and faculty mentor programs • Oversee academic and behavioral eligibility for extracurricular activities Parent Communications • Send weekly Headmaster Missive to parents or school newsletter • Meet with parents regarding student discipline and academic issues Admissions • Participate on an admissions committee to: o admit new students upon review of student application materials, placement exam, and family interview o oversee transfer student process (curriculum, graduation requirements, forms, etc.) o review placement tests and contact parents with remedial needs • Deliver presentations to and meet with prospective parents and students (e.g. information meetings, Open Houses, other relevant events) Guidance • Coordinate standardized testing, college applications and transcript preparation • Communicate with colleges, universities and other post-high school programs • Promote various vocational opportunities Other School Operations • Involvement in selection and evaluation of vendors (software, textbooks, other services) Teaching Responsibilities • Headmaster will be expected to teach (number of classes to be determined) • Preference for candidates proficient in teaching more than one of the following subjects: Theology, Philosophy, Literature, Writing (IEW), History, Latin, Math, Science, Art, Drama, or Music Requirements • Master's Degree in Education, Administration (or related field) or equivalent experience in teaching and administration in a classical school setting • Significant teaching experience in a classical school environment and experience in secondary school administration • Familiarity with the mission of Chesterton Academy of the Incarnation • Practicing Catholic and knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church • Working knowledge of institutional advancement/fundraising About Chesterton Academy of the Incarnation Founded in 2021 through a grass-roots movement of parents, Chesterton Academy of the Incarnation offers a rigorous, integrated high school curriculum centered on the Incarnation of Jesus Christ.
