The Appleton Area School District has a position available for a 1.0 FTE Principal located at Classical School (215 day Contract). Education: Master's Degree preferred / Certification: Principal (#5051) - Preferred Background Information Classical School is an official Core Knowledge© charter school serving grades K-8. Classical School provides an excellent education through an academically rigorous curriculum. The foundational guide is E.D. Hirsch’s Core Knowledge© Sequence. Mastery is emphasized in all subject areas. Students are taught to strive for personal excellence in all areas of their lives. We promote knowledge-centered education, cultural literacy, and the values of a democratic society. The principal of Classical School serves as the school’s administrator of daily operations and, on behalf of the CCSA Board, takes primary responsibility for implementing the school’s educational philosophy, as expressed in the school’s Charter. The principal oversees and maintains all of the school’s critical working relationships, acting as the central representative to the School District, the administrator for faculty, staff, students and parents, the chief liaison between the school and the CCSA Board, and as the school’s ambassador to the community. The principal manages the day-to-day operations of the school in a manner consistent with the terms of the Charter, the oversight of the CCSA Board, the expectations and policies of the Appleton Area School District, and the terms of applicable labor agreements and laws. Desired Qualifications Firm commitment and passion for Classical School’s: • Mission, values and educational philosophy • Tenets of Core Knowledge© Foundation • Curriculum o Core Knowledge© ( o SRA Direct instruction o Shurley Grammar Method o K-8 Spanish instruction o K-8 Latin instruction o Informal/Formal Logic • K-8 structure • Skill grouping K-8 for math and reading instruction • 3-5 years’ experience teaching or leading a Core Knowledge©, classical or similar school • Teaching experience a plus • Firm belief and understanding of charter schools • Familiarity of state charter law • B.A./B.S. in related field • Working knowledge of software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access • Strong verbal and written communication skills Responsibilities Administrative • Serves as educational leader for the school • Implement and maintain mission and philosophy of school • Maintain curriculum integrity, managing and ensuring the effective implementation of curricular components • Participates and reports to and about: curriculum and program committees; CCSA board meetings • Supervises and implements standardized and curriculum testing including student placement and skill level groupings • Supervises new student applications and admission • Supervises staff, volunteer and student recognition • Foster school culture of personal excellence and knowledge-centered education • Establish and maintain positive relationships with all school stakeholders—Appleton Area School District, Classical Charter School Board of Directors, parents, students, staff and Core Knowledge Foundation Student Services • Creates a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment for the students through supervision of personnel and maintenance of systems serving students’ needs, including discipline, playground, lunch room, and health • Manages school Response to Intervention (RTI) structure in conjunction with Student Services team, maintaining integrity of charter program • Coordinates Special Education service with AASD Special Education department and school Special Education staff, maintaining integrity of charter program Staff Management • Creates a culture that supports and enables staff to achieve school mission and uphold the philosophy as outlined in established charter (in conjunction with AASD) • Oversees staff evaluations and observations and supervises teachers, school secretaries, building engineers and educational staff Budget/Financial • Manages and maintains AASD site budget • Supervise Classical School activity account (including dual control for disbursement) • Oversees acquisitions of board-approved textbooks, curriculum and program materials and supplies • Coordinates and implements capital needs and activity fees as directed by CCSA board and AASD Communications • Upholds established mission and philosophy as outlined in CCSA charter • Upholds CCSA Board decisions and policies to faculty, staff, students, parents, AASD employees and community • Oversees outgoing publications and markets school to parents and other constituencies Candidates who apply prior to the posting deadline will receive first consideration. -- An Equal Opportunity Employer --
