Leadership Development: Boards

Your Questions

Our Answers

Why does this service matter?

No institution has ever succeeded without effective leadership. While many of those institutions don’t matter, the classical school does. In fact, every decision made in the board room affects the nurturing of the souls of the students in the classroom.

Without a strong, prudent, insightful, and visionary board, your school risks anxiety, division, low morale, student and teacher attrition, and failure.

Worst of all, your school risks graduating students who have not experienced the steady, systematic, patient cultivation of wisdom and virtue.

But with a strong, prudent, insightful, and visionary board, your school has the potential to go beyond mere success to fulfilling your dreams for the students in your school and for the school in your community.

When a board knows what it needs to know, understands what it needs to understand, and can do what it needs to do, that board is capable of memorable feats as extraordinary as governing a harmonious, united community that graduates students well along the path of wisdom and virtue!

How will my school benefit from this service?

CiRCE Institute board development equips boards to lead with the enthusiasm that arises from a unified vision and the confidence that comes from effective planning while sustaining the stability that results from effective teaching in a community sheltered by wise leadership.

Imagine a school to whom other schools look as a model for governance, where parents and teachers trust the leadership, where the budget is optimized, needed resources are available, and where students are graduated who can stand against worldly pressure and succeed within the cultural context for which they are being prepared.

That is the kind of school the CiRCE Institute can help you grow.

Essentially, what are you offering my school?

    (for start-ups or established schools)

When do you recommend we use this service?

CiRCE Institute board development is available to your school when you determine that we can help you more effectively pursue your schools vision.

Whether you turn to CiRCE Institute for help or not, we would urge you to develop a vision and mission for your school that every board member and school leader thoroughly understands and is bound to before cracks develop in your foundation! Without a common vision, a school is predestined, by its own hand, to confusion, division, and frustration.

The Vision and Strategy Retreats should occur within three months of each other whenever possible. The Assessment retreat can be held up to six months later.

Ideally, a school will have the time to accomplish all three levels over the course of a year before your school opens its doors. However, we do not live in an ideal world.

If you are an established school that wants to refine your governance, we recommend a Vision Retreat in the fall, a Strategy Retreat in the winter, and an assessment retreat in the spring.

If you are a new school that has recently opened your doors, we recommend a Vision retreat in the Spring so you can spend more time on the higher level thinking that is so essential. The Strategy retreat should follow in the fall and the Assessment during winter or spring.

All of these sequences are adaptable.
